How to prepare UPMA (Rava upma)

UPMA is a very quick easy and tasty recipe made in Telangana, Andhra Pradesh cuisines. It is a basic upma recipe made with sooji (suji, semolina, rava). Everyone will enjoy this recipe. This can be made 3 different forms like liquid, solid and dry consistency. What ever form it may be the taste is yummy. If you suffering with some illness this is the best food you can take. This is very healthy tasty and delicious recipe. 

Ingredients needed:
(1 cup = 200grams)
  • → Rava (sooji, suji, semolina) - 1/2 cup
  • → Onions - 1/4 cup
  • → Green chilli - 5-6 numbers
  • → Ginger and garlic paste - 1 teaspoon 
  • → Coriander leaves - 1 bunch
  • → Curry leaves - 1 bunch
  • → Mustard seeds - 1/2 teaspoon 
  • → Cumin seeds - 1/2 teaspoon 
  • → Cashew nuts (optinal) - 5-6 numbers
  • → Chana dal (split chickpea) - 1 teaspoon 
  • → Peanuts - 1 teaspoon 
  • → Carrot - 1/4 cup
  • → Potato - 1/4 cup
  • → Oil/ghee - 3-4 teaspoons
  • → Water - 1 1/2 cup
  • → Salt to taste

Preparation:

   1. Dry roast suji (sooji, rava, semolina) until it gets crispy, pour in a plate and let it cool down.
   2. Heat oil/ghee in a pan add mustard seeds, cumin seeds, ginger and garlic paste, green chilies, curry leaves, chana dal (split chickpea), peanuts, cashew nuts, onions cook them for 2-3mins.
   3. Add water let it boil then, add carrot (grated or cubed pieces), potato pieces  into it and let cook them for 5-10mins.
   4. After the vegetables are cooked add water according to sooji then add sooji let it boil until the water is observed by sooji, cooked and garnish with coriander leaves.
    5. Finally the tasty delicious recipe is ready to enjoy with pickle and curd
